Response to Proposed Marina Development

Anchor Point Marina Zoning Application – Community Concerns

The proposed Anchor Point Marina zoning application is currently before the Town Council for consideration. On July 30th, residents of Holmes Point and Donna Drive voiced their concerns to the Council regarding the impact of the development.

The proposal includes 307 boat slips but only 144 parking spots—a serious mismatch that would strain local infrastructure and increase congestion in an already busy area. Residents are deeply concerned about the potential for increased traffic, noise, and disruption to the natural environment.

Community Concerns Include:

  1. Traffic and Safety: The addition of hundreds of boats and associated vehicles will significantly increase traffic on narrow residential streets. Illegal parking, congestion, and reduced pedestrian safety are primary concerns. Increased boat traffic may also worsen shoreline erosion along the Pefferlaw River, and more boats anchoring near homes often bring loud music and disturbances, particularly during peak summer months.
  2. Environmental Risks:
The development poses a threat to local ecosystems, water quality, and wildlife in and around Lake Simcoe. The Pefferlaw River is already facing erosion challenges, which may be exacerbated by increased marine activity.
  3. Noise and Light Pollution:
A marina of this scale would bring elevated levels of noise, artificial lighting, and continuous activity that conflict with the quiet, residential character of Holmes Point.
  4. Loss of Community Identity:
Holmes Point Community is cherished for its natural beauty, small-town feel, and quaint residential use. Residents fear that this development will shift the area toward a commercial, high-traffic zone—eroding the charm and identity that have defined our community for generations.

Community Action

Residents have submitted formal objections to the Town of Georgina and are requesting:

  1. A comprehensive traffic and environmental impact assessment
  2. Independent reviews of all developer-submitted reports
  3. Preservation of Holmes Point as a local quiet residential area

Our community is united in its commitment to protecting the environment and maintaining the unique character of Holmes Point for current and future generations.
